About Rebecca

Rebecca is a State Registered Chartered Physiotherapist who has been qualified for 23 years. She has worked as an Advanced Clinic Practitioner in knees and hips for the last 14 years. She did a master’s level joint injection qualification in 2014 and has done thousands of knee injections since.

She is passionate about knees and imparting her knowledge of managing osteoarthritis and keeping people with joint pain active.

What does Ostenil Plus do?

Ostenil ®Plus is a solution containing Hyaluronic Acid and Mannitol (a simple sugar derivative which allows the hyaluronic acid to work for longer and more efficiently in the joint). It is injected into the joint space between the bones.

Hyaluronic acid is the most important constituent of synovial fluid and has four important functions:

It keeps the bones slightly apart, protecting their cartilage coverings from wear and tear.

It absorbs shocks, again protecting the cartilage.

It lubricates the joint, helping it to work freely and easily.

It acts as a filter, letting nutrients reach the cartilage, but blocking the passage of harmful cells and substances.

How does it work?

A solution of Ostenil ®Plus is injected into the space in the joint that contains the synovial fluid and works by restoring the natural balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid.

This effect means that it can decrease pain and stiffness and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ostenil Plus have any side effects?

Ostenil Plus has been extensively tested and is very safe. It contains no animal proteins so allergic reactions are very rare. All injections carry a very small risk of infection and post injection soreness.

It has much lower side effects and risk profile than corticosteroid so is frequently used due to this and its longer lasting effects.

How soon will I feel the effects?

The injection takes around 10 days to work and most patients will then start to feel a decrease in their pain and stiffness over the first month. The effects can then last up to 6 months.

It is possible to have a repeat injection each 4-6 months if required.

It is often good to time its use ahead of a sports season/ holiday/ski trip.

Do I need to take any precautions after the injection?

We advise resting from any activity for 48 hours eg exercise/excessive walking. The injection is administered as a home visit to allow you to rest immediately afterwards.

How much do Ostenil Plus injections Cost?

Ostenil Plus into one knee is £275 and this covers the consultation and the injection as a home visit.

If both knees are required, it is £450.

* Further travel costs may be added if you live further than a 10 mile radius to WA16.

We bring the sterile pack and equipment needed to you and Rebecca is a registered provider with TRB Chemica who is the official provider of Ostenil Plus in the UK.

Our Process

15-minute phone consultation

A simple, 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your knee and its suitability for Ostenil Plus. We may request x-ray reports from you or your GP to help us target our treatment better.

We will send you a questionnaire to complete prior to arranging your appointment.

Ostenil Plus Treatment Plan

Rebecca will arrange a date and time that suits you.

30-minute Appointment

The appointment requires 30 minutes. It is good to have someone else at home with you, but not essential.

Payment

Payment is via bank transfer or cash within 14 days.

Follow-up

Rebecca will follow up with an email 4 weeks after to hear outcome of your injections.
